When Kayla was a sophomore in college, she had the opportunity to hear Maya Angelou speak and recite poetry.  A quote that stuck with her was, “Be a rainbow in somebody’s cloud.” It quickly became her mantra and was integrated into her counseling philosophy. Kayla strives to be that rainbow by working with her clients to build a strong sense-of-self, as she believes that is the foundation of everyone’s personhood.

Kayla traveled from the east of Mississippi to attend graduate school and plant roots in the great state of Texas. She earned a Master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from the University of North Texas (UNT) and is happy to call Dallas her new home.

Kayla specializes in trauma with both children and adults. She utilizes an attachment approach when working with adults and play therapy when working with children. Kayla has experience working with parents and caregivers to develop and strengthen relationships with their children based on connection, empathy, and love.

Kayla believes every person (no matter how small) deserves to feel worthy. She strives to create a safe space of acceptance, understanding, and kindness where clients can openly process their experiences and develop self-awareness. In her spare time, she can be found teaching herself how to play the ukulele, hanging out with her dogs, and checking out new coffee shops. One of her favorite quotes is by Mister Rogers is: “The world needs a sense of worth, and it will achieve it only by its people feeling that they are worthwhile.”
