Getting to know Laura

The Clinical Director of our Richardson location, Laura grew up in Plano and has lived in Texas since the age of three. She married her high school sweetheart and has three children - two grown and one that believes that he is. Laura has had many jobs over the years – graphic designer, headhunter, curriculum writer, barista and now counselor – but one thing all her jobs had in common was that they were centered around making connections with people and building relationship.

Maintaining a marriage of 28 years and raising three kids has taught Laura that life can be messy… and that’s ok. Her passion is to help families become strong teams that can learn how to face life’s challenges together. Whether the focus is marriage counseling, family therapy or counseling for children and teens the goal is to help build stronger communication, trust and respect in relationships.

Laura developed a passion for helping families when she was working with the youth group at her church. As her oldest child started to approach high school graduation, Laura went back to school to get her Masters in Counseling at Dallas Baptist University, graduating in 2016. During her last year of school, Laura worked at the Children’s Advocacy Center of Collin County as a counselor for families, teens and children who had been impacted by trauma, abuse or neglect.

When she is not reading books about psychology, Laura enjoys traveling with her husband and freelancing as a sports photographer.

Style & Approach

Laura is primarily a cognitive behavioral therapist but believes that each client brings unique life experiences to the counseling relationship and will adapt treatment as needed. Laura works with clients to identify thought patterns have impacted their relationships with themselves and others.

Working with families and individuals in crisis or transition has always been at the core of Laura’s work as a counselor. She is a Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) and is trained in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART). Through these techniques and collaboration with her clients, Laura has had the privilege to help individuals learn how to handle what once seemed overwhelming.
